HFGS Receives the International GREEN SCHOOL Award!

Congratulations, HFGS for receiving the International GREEN SCHOOL Award.

We are pleased to share with you Holy Family Grade School – Glendale’s receiving the International Green School Award – our school being recognized for its sustainability practices and its initiatives in helping protect God’s resources and our planet Earth. HFGS, one of the staunch and committed schools of the Archdiocese of Los Angeles, shared a curriculum on sustainability fundamentals focusing on ESG – Environment, Social, and Governance at one of UNESCO’s affiliated organizations. In attendance were heads and presidents of universities, non-profit organizations, private and public institutions, policy makers, advocates, and representatives from different states and countries all over the world.

Mrs. Teresa Nelson (Kindergarten Teacher, Vice Principal for Primary School, and Athletic Director) and Mr. Tomas Makiling (Music Teacher and Concert Chorus Director), along with Mrs. Yanira Gomez (Spanish Program Consultant) received the International Green Teacher Award 2023 from Green Mentors’ NYC 7th Green School Conference at Cornell University on Friday, September 15, 2023. Mr. Makiling composed the melody and collaborated with Band Director Gabriel Martin for the Go Green Song and Mrs. Gomez had the song lyrics Spanish translation. Principal Suelto presented HFGS curriculum and practices on Sustainability following the conference’s guiding theme on “Green School for Every Child” toward environmental stewardship, education, and global cooperation.

We are rejoicing to have received such prestigious awards and celebrate our teachers’ and school community’s efforts toward the progress made in green education. Thank you all for your support.
