MATHEMATICS

We use Mathematics in everything we do. At Holy Family Grade School, we strive to teach our students that math is not only applied on books and paper but throughout our daily lives.

Holy Family Grade School’s Mathematics Program aligns with the California Common Core State Standards. These standards provide clarity and specificity rather than broad, general statements. Students will learn and understand in a more organized way both during the school year and across grades, and we hope that these standards will encourage them to solve real-world problems.

The primary grades utilize Progress in Mathematics (Sadlier-Oxford) and Go Math! (Houghton Mifflin Harcourt). Both provide students with foundational skills such as:

  • Counting and Cardinality
  • Simple Operations with Whole Numbers and Rational Numbers
  • Measurement and Data
  • Geometry

In middle school, students have access to Go Math! E-Books on their iPads, which provides balanced, relevant, credible, and supportive instruction. By using advanced technology in the classroom, students are engaged and actively participating as they come to understand concepts within these standards:

  • Ratios and Proportional Relationships
  • The Number System
  • Algebraic Expressions and Equations
  • Geometry
  • Statistics and Probability
