The Holy Family Grade School Concert Band is comprised of students from 4th to 8th grade that play woodwind, brass, and percussion instruments. Students may purchase and use their own instruments or may arrange to have access to the many instruments that the school provides. Prior playing experience is not required, but members of the band are encouraged to seek private lessons to help continue their musical growth.
In Concert Band, students focus on fundamentals like proper care and maintenance of their instrument, proper tone production, fundamental rhythms, learning basic music notation and note reading. Performance etiquette and exposure to Concert Band literature is a very important part of Concert Band. Students in band can expect to have a fun time playing music on an instrument while learning to collaborate with others in a structured ensemble setting.
Annual performance opportunities include the Parish Country Fair, Christmas Concert, Spring Concert, and student assemblies.
Concert Band is taught by Mr. Quentin Purviance after school on Mondays, Wednesdays, and Fridays from 3:15 – 4:50 pm during the school year (No rehearsal on noon dismissal days).
