May Crowning: Students Show Devotion to Our Blessed Mother

It is true that Holy Family Grade School is known as a place of high achievement regarding academics, athletics, and the arts – and these indeed are very important qualities of our school.

However, following last Tuesday’s Holy Mass, our students showed achievement in the most important aspect of their formation of all: their Catholic faith. This was demonstrated clearly and beautifully with the organization, pomp, and splendor of the 8th grade class’s crowning of our Mother, the Most Blessed Virgin Mary, Mother of God.

This was all achieved with a great deal of work and focus from HFGS teachers working in conjunction with our friendly associates from Holy Family Church. The preparation of the 8th grade class was orderly, clear, and reverent, thanks to the work of Ms. Liberda, the home-room teacher of the graduating class of 2022. The music for the Mass prior, managed by the music teacher and organist Mr. Makiling, included prolific works, among them Caccini’s Ave Maria written during the Renaissance, and the Ave Maria Gregorian chant that is commonly sung in Marian liturgies, sung by HFGS students. The music did nothing less than elevate the piety in the hearts of all present. Fr. Michael, the celebrant of the Mass, gave a heartwarming homily, deepening the devotion of the congregation and helping all to love our Mother all the more.

While it is certain that God is smiling down on the teachers and students for all of their hard work in raising the bar of Catholic education academically, it is all the more certain that our Lord and Lady are smiling down even the more as we at HFGS continue to raise the bar in how we worship God and venerate His Mother as a Catholic school.
