Mrs. Teresa Nelson

Dear Kindergarten Families,

My name is Mrs. Teresa Nelson. I am very excited to be working with your child this coming school year as their Kindergarten teacher and Vice Principal of Primary Grades. I am a proud alumnus of both Holy Family Grade School and Holy Family High School, and am pleased to be able to give back the great education I received from Holy Family. I hold a Bachelors Degree in Social Science with an emphasis in Education from Ashford University, and Masters Degree in Elementary Education, and clear California Teaching Credential from University of Phoenix. I am honored to be a part of this school community, and look forward to working with you as partners in your child’s education.

The Kindergarten classroom offers many opportunities for volunteer service. You may wish to be our room parent who assists in coordinating classroom parties, or chaperone on one of our field trips. We do offer some opportunities to volunteer from home, as there are many classroom preparation items such as cutting, gluing, and washing nap mat covers. You must be fingerprinted along with a valid tuberculosis negative test result and Virtus certified in order to volunteer in the classroom.

Communication is the key for a successful classroom environment and school experience. A weekly classroom newsletter, which includes homework assignments and Kindergarten class information, is sent via Gradelink email. In addition, communication on important school news is sent weekly through Gradelink and the family envelope. You may also visit us on the school website at hfgsglendale.org.

The Kindergarten classroom builds the foundation for your child’s academic career and growing independence. Often, it is their first experience with behavioral expectations outside of the home. Our kindergarten classroom behavior standards are focused around self-control and respect. Discipline is an aspect of moral guidance and not a form of punishment. The purpose of discipline is to provide a school climate conducive to learning and one that promotes character development.

I believe that each child brings their own unique set of talents, experiences and personality to share in our classroom and that learning is shared between teacher and student. I look forward to learning and working with your child by presenting a curriculum that sparks their interest and their love of learning. Our classroom curriculum consists of Religion, Math, Language Arts, Reading, Science, and Social Studies. The Kindergarten class will also have the following allied courses of Music, Art, Physical Education, and Spanish.

I am available for conferences in the mornings from 7:30am until 7:55am, should you feel the need to schedule a meeting. You may also email me at the above school website as I check my emails daily should you have any questions that I can assist you with. I look forward to seeing you and beginning a fun and growth filled year together.

Blessings,

Mrs. Teresa Nelson
