Dear Holy Family Community,
I feel fortunate to introduce myself as the school counselor for the 2015-1016 school year at Holy Family Grade School. I have been able to witness the wonderful community environment here, and I am happy to add my services in helping and supporting the students, parents, staff and teachers. My education includes a B.A. from UC Irvine in Political Science, a B.S in Animal Science from Cal Poly Pomona, and a M.A. in Counseling Psychology from Pacifica Graduate Institute in Carpinteria. I come with much experience in working with children, including counseling at a Catholic school in South Central, group homes for children in the foster care system in Oxnard, a community counseling center in Santa Barbara, transitional living homes, and a charter school in Studio City.
My goal here as a Marriage and Family Therapy Intern (IMF #75127) is to help the children with any social, emotional, and psychological issues within the context of a school environment. I receive support and tutelage from my clinical supervisor, Dr. Kathleen Fitzgerald, as I work with the students and community at HFGS. I will work with the children referred to me so they may have as many chances to succeed here, and make the most of this educational opportunity, as possible. I will work with the teachers and staff as well, in order to gain as much information to help the children in their development as an individual, as well as a member of the community here at Holy Family.
I am available to answer questions and be a resource for family and staff. My email address is DGarland@hfgsglendale.org and my phone number for Holy Family is (626) 460-1425. I have enjoyed the month I have been here getting to know some of the community already, and look forward to a blessed school year for all.
Deborah Garland (or Ms. Debbie as the children tend to call me)
